The atmosphere that Bolano creates is always heavy and dark. This is not a page turner- each sentence is so full of detail that in order to fully appreciate its complexity, you have to read it slowly. It is also one of the most stressful novels I have ever read, largely in part due to the part about the murders. I also, admittedly am slightly obsessed with this book- I don't know exactly how to pinpoint to what or wherein my obsession lies, but it is something creepy yet intriguing that makes me love this book. He is one of the most phenomenal modern authors I have read. I am so happy that I have bought the book, so that I can continue to reread sections of it. It is slightly mystical, yet very real.
